Night of Dark Shadows wallpaper

Back when this site first launched, I created some images show what trading cards for the movies House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows might have looked like. I even made "wax wrappers" for these cards, then used the images for desktop wallpaper. It seems that I never shared the Night of Dark Shadows wallpaper, though it was probably posted in one for or other on my Facebook page.

I've shared some of these images here over the last few weeks, as well as at the Collinsport Historical Society's Tumblr account. All 70+ custom  "trading cards" in these series are now available for viewing at our Facebook page, so check them out!

Dark Shadows: The Revival Trading Cards

More images in my custom 1991 Dark Shadows trading card "collection." In order to save space I've posted more than a dozen other "cards" from this series at our Facebook page, which you can see HERE.

In order to avoid confusion, no cards were ever produced for this show. These are my own creation.

Time Warp Art: Vintage Dark Shadows movie cards

The I Ching has been playing havoc with my schedule once more, sending me back to the late 1960s where there were some time travel related ... incidents. Long story short, everybody owes Yoko Ono a BIG apology.

But accidentally breaking up The Beatles wasn't my only achievement. I also brought back a box of Dark Shadows trading cards that have no business existing. I scanned the box and two of the cards, which you can see above.

Dark Shadows: The Revival Trading Cards

This was a difficult one.

The 1991 Dark Shadows revival series never had a series of trading cards, which is odd when you consider there was a glut of non-sport cards released around that time (and why were there no cards produced for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?) While watching the first episode of the 1991 series last night I decided to mock-up some faux cards, and it was a lot more difficult than I would have guessed.

First of all, many of the cards that were released around 1991 looked horrible. These were nebulous times, with card design trapped between the more simple styles of the '70s and '80s, and the pending borderless-glossy styles that were beginning to take old in sports card collecting. If you were lucky, the styles were garish. If you weren't lucky you were stuck with flat, sexless designs like THIS. And I didn't want to commit myself to designing a bunch of cards that were nothing more than photos with a flat border on them. And I really didn't want to design something that looked modern and distracted from the show's time period.

So I came up with something that, IMHO, looks like a design that would be garish enough for 1991 but isn't too mundane. I hope you like them.
