WB has released individual character banners for Dark Shadows. If I were a speculatin' man, I'd venture a guess that the marketing campaign for the film was delayed because of inner conflicts between the studio and director over how they were going to market the (obviously bizarre) film. As with the other print materials released for the film the images are gorgeous and are doing their job (in this case, "doing their job" means "making me ignore my better judgement".)
