The Creep Factor: Day Ten

Welcome to The Creep Factor, a new feature that will scientifically determine which episodes of Dark Shadows are the scariest. The results of this evaluation were arrived at through a process involving the I Ching, no fewer than three seances and several experimental blood transfusions. They are presented in no particular order. Also .... SPOILER ALERT!

Day Ten: Joe Haskell goes crazy (Episode 613)
Dark Shadows was a television show about moral ambiguity, but there were a handful of characters who lacked those shades of gray. Among them was Joe Haskell, an all-around Good Guy who was probably captain of the Collinsport High School football team. There were never any shades of gray with Joe Haskell.

Until Angelique hit town, that is.

Angelique was turned into a vampire by the warlock Nicholas Blair, who used her to put people under her spell. Joe was one of these targets, which began a story that had him being unfaithful to Maggie Evans that split the long-standing couple. And then things really got interesting as Joe went full-scale crazy and tried to murder Barnabas Collins. The last we see of the character he’s being dragged to an asylum and is never heard from again. Proof again that nice guys finish last in Collinsport.

Actually, I think the scene where Joe goes over the edge as a result of being attacked simultaneously by both Tom Jennings the vampire and Chris Jennings while he is a werewolf is far scarier than the above scene.
